'The Jews of Kaifeng'

Jews were Chinese in more ways than food.
Migration was not always out of the places
our families had fled; it had once been to.

Hats off to Adrienne Su for this satisfying sonnet, to The Common for first publishing it, and to David Lehman at The Best American Poetry blog for bringing it to the attention of his audience and for providing a photo of the poet.
